silicone

First time posting here and im not sure if this is the right place but, I am repairing a buddy's TT. He hasn't sealed his seams in a while and the floor in his bedroom rotted out. I removed and replaced it while the weather was cold and now that its warmed up I am going to go over all the seams. I sent him off to camping world to buy the supplies. He came back with Dicor self leveling (for the roof) and Geocel 8150 and in big letters across the tube it says "100% silicone". I have always been told and known not to use silicone but my buddy told me the guy at camping world insisted he use this material. Am I missing something here? Is this silicone different than others?

  • Yeah, I told him to get the proflex at CW but apparently the sales associate had other things in mind! Guess I will have to make a trip down there myself.....
  • The Dicor Self Leveling Sealant is great for roof seams/around vents etc.
But doesn't work very well on vertical/sidewall needs.

    Dicor makes a non-sag sealant

Silicone should NOT be used.........silicone leaves behind an all but permanent coating to which no sealant, including fresh silicone, will adhere. If a silicone has been used it must be completely removed using a silicone remover.

For vertical/sidewall sealant I use ProFlex Flexible RV Sealant by Geocel Corp. NOT FOR USE ON RUBBER

    Pretty sure CW sells it.
  • Silicone only if you want to clean it up and do it again next yer..lol! Dicor, Proflex, and etrabond tape.
  • For places like the floor use 100% latex caulking. You can find it at any of the big box stores
