Slide not working

So I just got from my trip. The plan was to get the slide fixed when I got backed. Had been able to identify many things it wasn't. Narrowed it down to wiring from the motor of the slide to the power. The day I left I decided to try the slide and to my amazement it worked!!!! Thanks for all the suggestions.

I'm the Winnie Class C owner that j-d referred to in his post above. I didn't think I had anything to add the info already in the thread, especially since we have had no problems with the slide. This morning I ran through the 100 or so RV maintenance related bookmarks that I've collected over the years (just in case I needed a reference) and found three related to slideouts.

Winnebago Service Tip - helps to identify which type of slide mechanism you may have. The first diagram looks like ours. We have one of these on each end of the slide.

Kwikee slideout support info. Check out the manuals and troubleshooting guide flow charts. The solution may be there.

I'm pretty sure each of your slides has two motors turning worm shafts that bring the slide out and back in. I also think that one motor is running but not turning its shaft due to a drive pin or gearbox problem. That's the motor you hear running. The other motor is either dead, or can't move the slide on its own because it can't handle the job by itself. Or the slide goes to move and jams because only one motor is working.

That's based on what you've said, what I've looked up and read, and a conversation with another Winnie Class C owner. About all I can do from here.

Can you get access to it (the two motors), see what's running and what's not? Get a couple pix and either post them or send them to me.

I believe it was one of the rv.net moderators that created the link below to help with posting pictures. It works great.

At your home screen, right click, select new, then shortcut. Copy the link below as the location, select next and give it a name like RVnetPhoto, then select finish. This short cut will take you to the picture hosting site quickly any time you need to post a picture.

I keep it on my home screen next to my rv.net short cut.

To post a picture, double click your newly created shortcut "RVnetPhoto". Drag the photo you want to post to the host window and drop. It will return a link. Just copy the link and past it into the rv.net message window.

You won't see the photo until after you post the message.

You'll get the hang of it after a few posts.

Ironically on advise from someone else I did just what you suggested. It does seem that motor has power. I didn't leave it on long enough to see if it moved, but just long enough to hear the motor engage.

Does the motor/gearbox assembly look like this?


If so, and only two wires come out of it connecting to the rest of your RV, then it's an electrically reversible permanent magnet motor.

If that's what it is, you can

1. Disconnect coach's House Battery. Take a photo of the connections or draw a diagram first. Helps if you tape all the wires going to Positive in one bundle and all going to Negative in another bundle.

2. Unplug or disconnect those two motor wires. Use jumper wires or a portable start pack and apply power to the two leads from an external 12VDC source. Motor should run and move Slide one way, Open or Close. Switch those external power wires and Motor should move Slide the other way.

Don't overlook a loose connection or bad ground. Some builders use wire nuts for these connections and they do come loose.

I took a quick look at the Wiring Diagram for the Body on a 2009 31C and didn't spot anything about the Slide. So let me ask this: Can you get to the Slide Motor and its Wiring? If so, you should have a reversible 12VDC electric motor and either (a) a couple relays used to run and reverse the motor, or (b) a one-piece specialized reversing relay called a trombetta.

If you can get to those, describe what you find, even better, post a picture.
