The clacking is NORMAL. You run the room until you hear the first clicking/clacking. Then stop. That noise is the clutch. NORMAL noise and no harm will occur as long as you stop after the first second or so. Doug
There is a clutch composed of springs, plates with holes in and ball bearings between the motor and the drive gears.
When the slide reaches end of travel this clutch is designed to slip so that the motor is not completely stalled.
These plates are held together with springs until such time as the torque is sufficient to lift the balls out of their holes, separating the plates.
The "clacking" noise is the ball bearings rolling between the holes in the two plates of the clutch. This allows the motor to continue to run, even when the output shaft is stalled.
Excessive use CAN wear them out, but they ARE adjustable for tension. Not for the faint hearted, but it can be done!
