Slide out power.

I have a 38 ft. Jayco 5'er. Thinking about going boondocking and wonder what kind of generator wattage it will require to push em slides out and pull em in. Anyone that had this experience, thanks for you help.
Much obliged, Skip

  • Well friends, here I am again. I fixed the problem and so thankful to all that responded. I had checked all the fuses and they were all good. The battery is brand new and fully charged but I found an inline fuse near the battery in the battery compartment and that darn 30 amp fuse was blown. Now I feel like a RV mechanic, (well almost).
This is a great web site and just full of nice people.

The OP has some sort of problem; all slides should work on 12v.
  • Something's not right - slides should work on battery. Most manufacturers say NOT to run a slide on just the converter which is what you're doing now.
  • Mine was acting like that, and we found the wall switch was making contact but not as good as it should and with the converter running it boosted it enough to make it work.
  • My guess is you have a blown fuse on the slide so it will only move by getting 12 volt power from the converter. Slides are usually wired directly to the battery with a fuse in between and MANY will not work from the converter 12 volt power at all.
  • I doubt your battery is fully charged. Slides are 12 volt and your battery may be shot.
  • I thought the slide was 12 volt also but I checked them a bit ago and the slides work in and out fine with AC plugged in but when I unplugged it I got no movement. The battery is fully charged. Thank you for responding.

Don't know what type of rig you have but on both my 5th wheels (one past and one present) both operated slides were 12V.
