slide out repair

We have a 2008 Country Coach Tribute that recently showed a 3/8" separation between the counter top and wall on right side large slide out after closing during a recent trip. The caulking has separated only at this point with no cabinet, counter top, tile or other damage apparent. I found no restrictions under the cabinets or under the coach outside. The repair facility has indicated major time and expense to find out what the cause is and the service contract company has stated any structural cause will not be covered. Manufacturer indicated a crack in weld or broken screws/warped board is likely issue but this is all I could get so far. Expense is scary to me with no one committing to anything and if slide must be removed it will get even worse for an engineering fix. Can issue be found from outside in instead of the other direction? Any less costly? Looking for some advice or help to avoid further coach damage or major financial consequences.

  • Does the separation close itself when either retracted or extended? If so, I would NOT be worried about extensive repair problems or cost. I would install a 3/8 shim wood strip in the gap and then have someone activate the room and see what happens when the room extends and retracts. If the shim keeps the gap closed and you see or hear no other problems, leave the shim in and then use a corner trim to cover the gap/shim. Doug
