Just an opinion, but I can't imagine the slide isn't designed to hold weight when it's in, that would be, well... odd. If you still have a warranty, I would use it. I would skip the story about the corrugated plastic sheeting. I'm not suggesting that you hide it, I just don't think it's relevant and it complicates the story.
