We do most of our camping off-grid in the woods down miles of dirt road. I decided early in my search that I wanted to limit my potential failures and went with no slides.
I don't care how reliable they are - it is added weight, expense and a potential failure point. For me it wasn't worth the risk.
I think it is important to know your planned use and the length of time you are planning to keep it.
