It's heavier because the generator/alternator is larger and weighs more
This is were the power is created
You could take the generator section from the 500 watt
And attach it to a ten horse motor, it would still be 500 watt
But it would handle full power with no bogging down
the alternator/generator head is constructed differently
inverter versions have a automotive style high voltage alternator
which is much lighter in weight than the permanent magnet generator head used in some small lower cost generators

why is a 4 stroke inverter type so much lighter weight than a 2 stroke non-inverter?
