small generator for TT

I've searched about and only succeeded in confusing myself. I think I need a small 15 amp at 110 V generator that runs on propane that would put out enough juice to start my AC. If I had that, then I would be able to stay anywhere in my 24ft Kodiak tow behind trailer. But I can't wade through all the hype and figure out what I actually need. where to go? who to ask?
  • The general consensus is that you'll need 2 - 2000 watt generators in parallel to run the AC. DB has a Yamaha 2400 single generator that runs the AC in his 5er. My single Honda 2000 will NOT run my AC.
  • This is where you can get small gens already converted to propane. These are the small gens and I have used both the Honda and Yamaha. http://www.generatorsales.com/order/Triple-Fuel-Yamaha-EF2000iS-Generator.asp?page=EF2000iS

As stated these 2000 watt gens are right on the edge of being able to start your A/C. They may or may not be strong enough at any given timel
  • Hi,

Unfortunately running an air conditioner is a tough task for a generator. I'd recommend the yamaha 3000 sIEB unit.
  • Your TT likely has a 13.5k BTU AirCon. Your going need bigger than a 15amp (about 1600 watts continuos) to reliable run that plus house loads. More like 2800 watt continuous minimum. IMHO get gas powered, not propane. Propane is way to big a PITA to carry and refuel, you got to carry the generator and the fuel somewhere no matter whether it is propane or gas.
  • I bought a champion model #76530 2800w/3500w lp generator a few months ago. We have not used it to run the ac yet, but it did power the rest of the camper fine. We use it to recharge the batteries and run a kuerig coffee machine. It is not quiet like a Honda or Yamaha, but the price is a lot less. It has a 30 amp outlet which is a direct fit for the 30a trailer plug. No worries about old gas gumming up the carb during storage with lp. We have an suv for a tow vehicle, so transporting gasoline would be a problem for us. I will not transport gasoline cans or a gasoline powered generator inside the vehicle with us.
  • Does the Kodak have a built-in generator bay?

If not, I'd go gasoline vrs propane.
