I have one of those 250W inverters and it does sound like farm equipment.
Than I bought about 100W rated inverter that is build into 12V plug and no fan.
Use it for my laptop and occasionally it overheats, what with laptop battery is not a problem.
I think you can find those in 120W rating as well.
EDIT. found bigger one 130W constant, 260W surge no fan.
Similar looking one with bigger ratings have fans.
