Yes, amorphous Unisolar panels might be the ticket in less than ideal conditions. Pianotuna here is quite happy with it.
There are too many variables to solar system. Weather pattern, length of stay, size of battery bank. If it's sunny on the average 50% of time and they camp mostly in the open, with a big solar there is a good chance to get by without a generator most of the time. If the weather or shade are causing problems but they don't camp for more than a week and carry at least 400 AH bank, they can still make it with a big solar.
Being where they are, I would max the solar up. Motorhome will put some extra charge in when they are driving, so with a big solar there is a good chance to make it work without a generator.
I guess everybody suggests what he knows. For me 500W made of two 24V panels works fine down South in winter and up North in summer, so this is what I know and can recommend.
