The reason to go parallel is to use a PWM controller.
Did you do that when you switched to parallel?
No, I used the same MPPT controller as is set-up. Just changed the panel wiring as fast as I could with its wire nut connections (portable, ground mounted, panel holding contraption aimed at sun with tilted panels) The hard part is to switch over while the sky stays the same. The darn sky won't sit exactly still. I got it as close as I could so I could do a good test over several times at it.
Each panel can and did do 6.3 amps with my PWM controller when I used that, getting me about 18.9 amps. Best I could ever get with the 20a MPPT Tracer was 19.4 amps in series or parallel but it has self limiting to 260w. Watts were never that high due to panel heating, so I can't blame the limiting. Anyway same old story--same amps no matter what.
Beats me. I keep reading about how things are way better if you do this or that, but I can't get any of that. All comes out the same amps no matter what or which controller.
Almost makes you think you can't believe everything you read! (EDIT--except this part of course) Luckily I am happy with my solar in any configuration I have tried.
It all works great in the Summer. :) (I don't even bother with it in the winter.)
