I would retest that theory with your panels in parallel on a 30 amp PWM controller......then switch to series and 30amp MPPT controller.
With a clamp on ammeter measure the output of both controllers to battery.
I use the Trimetric and the solar controllers' readouts for test results. I have the results for the three 100s with my 30 amp PWM at 18.9 amps, which is right. You get Isc in best light with PWM (6.3 each)
My 20a MPPT gets 19.4 amps at best, usually 18.x in best light, so that is still under 20. I have wondered if the 30 amp version would do better with its higher self-limit of 390w vs 260w for the 20a Tracer.
However, since the 20 amper is maxing at about 19.4, I am not sure having the 30 amper would do any better. I am under 260w so I think it is panel heating as the limiter, not the controller's limit. Could be wrong. I am not going to spend $200 to find out for sure! :)
