What are the pros and cons to TYCO connectors vs mc4 and do they make some type of y connector for Tyco or should I stay away from tyco.

This is exactly what they called - Splicer Reducer. $5 in Home Depot. Each end accepts from #14 to #1. You need to put a heat shrink or insulation tape on it.
