I wonder if Mr Wiz had his problem because although his controller clips the amps to max rated, it still runs fairly warm while being clipped, and over time it couldn't take it any more.
The controllers I have seen all mention cooling ventilation in their installation instructions, but you can't do much with that in hot ambient and no breeze.
Jim's video guy thought his Eco-W was getting too warm and he thought adding fatter wires helped cool it down, as though it was the high resistance of the wires getting them hot that was making the controller hot. I doubt that notion. He had it mounted inside his rig flat against the wall so no air behind it, so I thought that was more likely the culprit.
