No professional installer I have ever heard of that tried to hit trusses.....just screw into wood substrate. Thousands upon thousands of RVs have it installed this way with no problem. Personally I would rather not screw into roof at all so I installed my panel mounts with 3M VHS doubleside tape.This seems to be the way more and more installers are doing it.
I sure agree with the guy who suggested not using the common Z mounts.....they make it very difficult to remove panels ifneed be.
