After the controller , between the controller and battery
You should be reading the charge amps into the battery

Btw there won't be any charge amps if the panel is bad, If panel and controller are working you will read charge amps
But your first drawing shows the meter power connected to plus from solar and plus from battery
That won't work
You need (1) plus wire, (1) neg wire for power , (not sensing), Both power wires must come from the SAME power source, The Battery not the solar panel
