It's easy to calculate the loss, all you need to know is wire guage, wire length, and max current. Once you have the number, it's up to you to see if you want to improve.
I agree with BFL, for a few % not really worth the effort and cost.
And it is easy to do the process in reverse. Figure what loss you will live with, once you know the current and length, easy to determine minimum wire gauge to meet that loss. Keeps you from either (a) spending to much on to large wire or (b) redoing the whole wiring because you used way to small wire or way to long a run.
