Would be nice to do a 48v lithium system and run some efficient dc A/Cs off it directly with a dc genset and just a big 48v charger for shore, then 48v inverter for misc 120vI think most folks would rather just run an AC generator and plug in their shore cord.
If a "whole DC" solution is needed, the motors to run a compressor are already in existence. Google "treadmill motor". I have one here that I pulled to use in a drill press. It is rated at 90 VDC and develops a ton of torque. IIRC, it's RPM rating is 3200 RPM. Since it's DC driven, a speed controller can control the RPM.
