8 amps is the generator output @110V AC before the converter. This becomes 60A DC after the converter.
BFL13 is right about weather extremes though. Can get cold enough to need a furnace, and can get hot enough to want an A/C.
For energy conservation during a cold spell in summer they could (should?) get a portable catalytic heater, $200 Olympian Wave 3 will be enough, $260 Wave 5 will be plenty for anything above freezing point. Zero 12V draw and very easy on propane, too.
High extremes, without running A/C, are more difficult to remedy. Getting portable $70 FanTastic Endless Breeze fan and/or upgrading roof fans is about the only thing they can try. There are few choices for roof vents, but for portable fan you can't beat the EB. Their intended locations - East coast of Vancouver Island and the ars-crack of Squamish/Whistler don't get same cold air from Pacific in summer as the West coast of the island. Nights should be comfortable enough to sleep without A/C in any of these places.
