Solar

I am getting ready to install solar system on my new to me DP I am looking at 2 255 watt Sainty Solar panels off craigslist here. I am considering using a renogy 40 MPPT rover elite controller. I put a system on my old FW and I went all out on that but trying to save a buck. II also have a question about installing on a fiberglass roof(Winnebago) do I use screws and Dicor or 3M tape and some dicor? I went to look in the archives for my old system but it has disappeared from here. The MH already has a Magnum Inverter installed. As always thanks for the help
  • For mounting the panels, I'd be using "Well-Nuts". They are rubber with a brass set of threads molded into them. They work like a "Re-usable" molly bolt. Certainly will the panels down firm.

What does the panel voltage have to do with anything? 310 watts of panels into a 12 volt system comes out to 42.5 amps before factoring any losses. I agree it will probably work but it's closer than I would want to cut it, particularly if I ever wanted to expand.
  • 3M VHB Heavy Duty double sided mounting tape, #4950 is highly recommended.

Clean surfaces well, use tape, and when mounts are done and in place, cover with Dicor to protect edges of tapd from sun and weather.

  • “Maybe go with a 60a controller give your self a little room to expand in the future.“

Definitely if you didn’t do an energy survey (actual use or desired use) since you would be guessing on what you need...batteries, controller, wire and panels. Trial and error gets expensive.

  • Maybe go with a 60a controller give your self a little room to expand in the future. The cost isnt that much extra.
