Check the weight of a new GM fan clutch versus an aftermarket "severe duty" clutch. If there is an appreciable difference in weight it will surely side with the OEM unit. If so, how much difference is there in price between the two?
If you decide to go with aftermarket, it would be intelligent and prudent to get the meanest fan you can get your mitts on.
