You had the clutch off for a short while, sitting on a box and then saw the drop of silicone fluid sitting underneath the fan?

A slight "weeping" is one thing
That there's a leak.
End of semantics
OEM denotes things with DYKEM not tire crayon
Sin embargo (regardless)
Check the weight of a new GM fan clutch versus an aftermarket "severe duty" clutch. If there is an appreciable difference in weight it will surely side with the OEM unit. If so, how much difference is there in price between the two?
If you decide to go with aftermarket, it would be intelligent and prudent to get the meanest fan you can get your mitts on.
Once again..... you're mincing words. Can't really tell how you feel about my "weeping" clutch, there, Mex.
Yeah, word is, Hayden makes the part now for GM. However... it's possible the OEM is manufactured in the USA while the Hayden branded unit may not be. I know they make one with some brand for Autozone and they make the Murray brand for O'Reilly's and they make the Napa rig.
So it's possible that the weight is the same.
What I AM finding is the spring adjustments may be more precise here in the lower 48, while the underpaid Chinese workers may not pay such attention to detail. So some are dead on and some need to be adjusted after you drive down the road on a hot day and never hear the fan wake up.
I hear some die after a time, get replaced, die again and the 3rd one lives a long life.
But I hear this for the OEM as well.
And some a dead nuts out the gate!
So I really am considering a well-documented wrecking yard OEM unit now.
I've got her laying face down on the tool box again. Will be interested to see if she's leaked when I get home.
More as it develops...
