Something pulling 10 amps from 12v

Well I just don't like repeating myself. I actually put that in the very first post because I knew people would say that over and over because I've had problems with the fridge before but they couldn't even be bothered to read the first post, they just saw the title and immediately replied. There's no way to make a proper response if you don't read anything but the title.

Plus I always appreciate the help here. Plus it's working now not sure what I did because I was messing with so much stuff but I'm not going to worry about it. The three fridge wouldn't cool while the freezer wasn't working. I also fixed that by replacing the thermistor, which I just had lying around amazingly. I appreciate the real help recieved on here not the one line responses based on the title. Thanks again for all the help.

Where did I say anything about encouraging this practice? :h I agree completely that posting without reading all that's been previously posted on a subject just adds to the noise HOWEVER the simple reality is that a lot will do it anyway, and in this case is the reason why the OP had 4 different people (according to him) point out that the fridge climate control heating element should be turned off whenever running on battery power. And he's offended at others just trying to help?! Good grief! :S

I haven't read the first 2 pages, but I make it #4, whatever it is.

I have been following this thread and reading the responses...I don't have any ideas what the issue could be aside from what has already been noted, so I have refrained from responding.

Apologies to the OP for this detour off the main path, let's return to the issue at hand, namely the fridge draws 10a according to the ammeter.

Make it 3!

Sorry to come off rude, you are right that it can't be 10 amps from the fridge but when I disconnected the two cables that power the fridge, bam, down to an amp. So I guess it must be something on the cables before there. A short or something, I'm no electrician.

The thing is that I had the same thing happen about two years ago, except there was also a 12v plug also wierd through together with the fridgs. I disconnected it and, bam, back to normal, till now.

Again sorry for coming off brash but I'm in the middle of the Yucon and I had at least four people tell me to check the temperature/climate control when I put in my first post that I don't use it. We don't really use campgrounds while traveling the half the year is off work, the other half we do though. We'll be traveling till September sometime. I need my fridge....

I just bought a clamp meter so I don't have to try to hold the wires to the meter. Now I've just got to figure out how to use it. I also got a line chaser, not sure how well that'll work but it seems like there might be something wrong with one of the two cables somewhere...

What I am TELLING you is, there is NOTHING on your refer pulling 10 amps DC current. You are not reading the amp draw correctly. MY point was to show you what the various amp draws ARE for Dometic refers, NOT that you have a climate control but to show what a Climate control amp draw IS, which is 1/2 amp. The wiring from the eyebrow(you call the upper board) is so small 10 amps would probably melt the wires. The Lower board is just basically a switch box, nothing on it to pull more than 1 to 3 amps max dc amperage. Now, maybe something has been ADDED to your refer that draws 10 amps, like fans or such, but those would be aftermarket and not OEM equipment. Now, some Dometic refers have an "Ambient" switch instead of a Climate Control Heater switch and some Dometic's the Climate control is built in to the Control board. The Ambient switch IF you had/have one and it is turned ON, leaves the Interior refer light ON, so that gentle heat keeps lettuce and such from freezing if close to the Evap fins. But that light bulb pulls less than 2 amps. Doug
