Auto parts store cables mostly have stamped steel ring terminals.
I had 2 4awg cables between shunt and battery, one store bought stamped steel cable with the original ends, one with the steel terminals cut off and some quality gold plated brass ring terminal crimped on with a hydraulic crimper.
The two wires together were passing 4.2 amps. 3.8 of those amps chose the brass terminal wire. Just 0.4 amps chose the one with the steel terminals, according to my clamp on ammeter.
When I cut off the steel ends and crimped on more gold plated brass
, the load was shared equally between the two wires. Here are the stamped steel ring terminals sticking to a magnet.
I have more stamped steel cables I need to get the steel off of, but they are on the vehicle steel chassis, not on my battery or auxiliary electric systems.
