stabil gas treatment vs seafoam for storage

I just drained 17 gallons out of my boat that has set since 2012. It was heavly treated with sta-bil. It still smelled like gas. I cant say for certain but since it was 2012 gas, it probably was ethenol free. E10 after setting for 3 months smells like something the cat drug onto the porch. Only 2 places near me to get real gas. One is 110 octane race fuel and the other is auto gas about 45 miles away.
