Starting Batteries

Hello again. Question: I just got a call from the rv storage area saying the starting batteries are dead on my 1997 American Tradition.

I just completed a trip 2 weeks ago and had no trouble with it what so ever.

What runs on the starting batteries other than headlights?

The batteries are probably around 5 years old so may just need to replace them but want to make sure I don't have a drain on them somewhere.

Appreciate the help in advanced.

  • The funny thing is I drove it 1000 miles here from Oregon and parked it in front of my house for 3 days. It started right up. Took it to storage and dropped it off and they said they had immediate problem with it.

Now it has been there for 3 weeks and I asked them to bring it out for me to use and it would not start.

Do batteries go out like this? How do you keep the chassis batteries charged while you store the motorhome. My last motorhome had a cutoff switch. The American tradition does not. The only switch I know of is in the engine compartment and I remember my husband telling me it was a kill switch not a battery disconnect.
  • Steps, step light, propane detector, smoke detector, ecu, just to name a few.
