I would recommend not doing it based on the fact I forgot to disconnect the plug one time. On the genset front, my generator went up in smoke when I connected shore power and had the genset running. I'd never done it before, but this time had dead chassis batteries and wanted some source of power all the time. The generator people removed the part containing the rotor and stator and found all bearings good. They surmised the pedestal tried to drive the generator.
I don't have a clue myself, but it did burn up when I plugged in shore power. I know there's a transfer switch . . . but??
