Suburban water heater issue

My brand new suburban sw12del water heater will not work off electric. I didnt know when i turned the switch on in the camper that the rod was out until a few hours later. Installed it and still not working on electric side but will work off propane. I have also flip breaker and reset it but i do not have an outside switch. What could be the problem? Thanks.

Yeah, running it without water probably cooked the heating element. That happens quick. I’d check it with a multimeter, if it’s toast, swapping it out is pretty easy. Also, some have a reset button inside the panel, worth a look. If that doesn’t do it, new element’s your best bet.

  • Yeah sounds like time for a new heater rod. Fortunately they aren't all that expensive.

  • Assuming by “rod” you mean the electric heating element. Then if at any time you “operated” the electric heating element without the element installed (and/or with no water in the tank), then you burned out the heating element. If that’s the case you will have to replace it - it burned out within the first minute or less.
