I am having a similar issue on Fuzion (form what you describe I have same setup black and grey plumbed into Y fitting all glued together), but I can't even remove the valve. How far away did you push the whole Y assembly (grey and black) to remove the valve. I got about 1/4" opening but it seems like it is stuck on something. To get to this opening I had to remove the screws from grey tank also.
Not sure how you made out but here is what I did to get things apart:
I cut 1x2 lumber (2 pieces about 1" longer than the space between the tanks), then wedged these pieces on each side of valve to push the tank side walls in just enough to separate the valve flanges (1/2" on each side). These is a plastic lip on each flange and an o ring that needs to clear for removal. The valves also tended to stick to the flanges and took a bit of force to separate.
