We tried out an induction cooker and it really works very well. It heats water quicker than an open flame, which we know since we use a propane stove. The unit will get warm as some of the heat from the pot will transfer to the unit. But after boiling 4 cups of water, you could put you hand on the cooktop after removing the pot. You couldn't leave it there but it wouldn't instantly burn you, hot, but not like an electric element by any means. Much less heat is put out by the induction cooker.
