Sunblock for tires -- as good as covering?

I have a really nice anodized mtn bike. 2 years after I got it I swapped out the frame for a smaller one, same kind. The first one was turning sort of maroon (normally ink black) from the sunlight. This new one I used Pedro's Bik Lust (a sunscreen) and it's yet to turn, after five years, which makes me think this product for the tires might work just as well. ?

  • I agree with Capri, if it is not made for tires it should not go on them. During the hot days of summer, you could use a tire shine product like armerall which is made for the rubber on the tires and will add a little protection. Obviously covering the tires with a uv protecting material is always best.
  • The problem here is that rubber absorbs petroleum products. When that happens the integrity of the rubber changes for the worse.

I'm going to guess the active ingredients aren't an issue, but the medium used to make it soft and pliable is.

    Sounds like a bad idea.
