Don't the videos you're watching say anything about the tools they're using? Seems like that would be the place to get an answer to your questions.
I have a few of the plug-in devices that use Blu-Tooth to communicate with the app on my Android phone. One is called "Torque" that I use a lot (I bought the "pro" no-ad version) and the other is "Car Scanner" which I haven't warmed up to as of yet but I did buy the no-ad version of that app also. They've help me diagnose problems that lit me "Service Engine Soon" light and reset it after I made repairs. Anyone that still does some of their own work should have one in their toolbox today.
