My surge guard has started to act funny......when it is plugged into the 30 amp outlet it checks fine.....but when I plug the camper cable into it it counts down and tells me that it has reverse pola...

I assume it's a portable Surge Guard unit
My guess the seals have leaked letting moisture inside
Seen a few with a cup or more of water in them
Hardest part of the repair is getting them apart and then properly sealed back up afterwards.
Might be worth your effort to take it apart and dry it out
