There is a fan upgrade available For the Coleman HP. The replacement fan is a computer designed three bladed "shamrock" type....very efficient..very quiet. I installed it today. There is a significant reduction in noise level inside and out.
IME, the noise comes from several bad designs in the HP. First the old fan is a crappy designed multi-blade air beater; the bonnet is a very flexible resin that vibrates sympathetically to the frequencies of the fan, compressor and airhandler like a drum head; the compressor's plumbing rubs/chatters/vibrates against the bonnet.
The fan kit has a brace for holding the bonnet away from plumbing. Good! It no longer sounds like a playing card in a bicycle spoke as the plumbing beats against the bonnet.
I applied aluminum faced butyl tape to the underside of bonnet for insulation & mass dampening. It has killed any resonance in the bonnet and dampens any noise. Works like a champ!
How quiet you ask????? With the generator running you almost can't hear the AC unit running... just a hummmmmmmmmm! On shore power it is quieter than a small vacuum cleaner...again a low hummmmmm. I think most of the noise is from the air being drawn through the condenser.
Got the kit from PPL RV Parts, Houston, TX. Ask for Dan the Parts Man...
