Ok Two Group 31's is about 250 amp hours.. If they are at 50% (you have run them down too far) they need 2 hours at 55 amps to get close to full, 2 hours at lower amperage MINIMUM to fill up That is MINIMUM. note that 55 amps is about as big as you want to use on those batteries. Way too big for a Group 24
I normally say six hours is the minimum to fully charge.
So it sounds like the converter is working.. But just to check...
Go to the converter itself with a digital volt meter.
Voltage before you fire up ye old generator
Voltage 2 minutes after generator engages (Transfer switch transfers)
and voltage every hour after that.
Post results.
