I normally say six hours is the minimum to fully charge.
So it sounds like the converter is working.. But just to check...
Go to the converter itself with a digital volt meter.
Voltage before you fire up ye old generator
Voltage 2 minutes after generator engages (Transfer switch transfers)
and voltage every hour after that.
IF, and I stress IF you can read amperage in that range (I have a clamp on DC ammeter) get those figures at each test as well.
