tach

I am trying to install a tachometer to a 454 and the coil is made funny.There is two plugs on the coil.A red wire and white wire on each.Can someone please tell me which wire to use.

    I think i found it.The one taped to the harness.It seems to be more steady and not so jumpy.
    Do i tap into the white wire or the one taped to it?

    Your right i found it thinks alot.Just for what its worth there are two white wires i just didnt know which one it was.I tyred the first one and it was real jumpy.Wasnt really in sync with the engine idle.So after hearing your post i tapped into the other.Now it is more responsive.Thank you

    In the old days, the tach's "trigger wire" (often green) went to the negative side of the coil so I would guess it might be the white wire in your case.
  • Also, if you were to ever replace the alternator you can get one with a tach output. That's what I did with my old 6.2L diesel.
