Your right i found it thinks alot.Just for what its worth there are two white wires i just didnt know which one it was.I tyred the first one and it was real jumpy.Wasnt really in sync with the engine idle.So after hearing your post i tapped into the other.Now it is more responsive.Thank you

In the old days, the tach's "trigger wire" (often green) went to the negative side of the coil so I would guess it might be the white wire in your case.

Also, if you were to ever replace the alternator you can get one with a tach output. That's what I did with my old 6.2L diesel.
