This is standard behavior for other businesses in the digital age too. I don't know why someone would be bothered with it.
How could Tesla be cheating anybody? The buyers had the option for more or less battery. If you opted for less, Tesla simply made it so with programming.
I don't see this as affecting life of the batteries either since those same batteries are already used at the higher rate.
