TESLA Hyperventilating About $ 5 Billion Battery Plant

Yadda seen the 1,675 ampere, 2KV PIV rectifiers I was using! They were made in Vermont and had 250 MCM leads and 3/4" diameter mounting holes. Brazed copper heatsinks, around 350 lbs each one, 470 CFM fans.

AC proved utterly destructive to FLA batteries. The Thyristors in the power unit had 3-1/2" flats across the hex. Serious stuff. Yes I had helpers, around a dozen laid off aerospace men.

I believe lightning is badass enough to swing both ways (polarity) and get away with it.

The Hot Seat. Something like 3,400 volts and 5 amperes. Of course adjustable. Prisons had their own generators. The urban myth of the lights dimming never happened.

But I got a bad 480 zap once that threw me ten (?) feet and caused amnesia for a week or so. Learned me good.

The days of fifty cent copper. Gone forever. Along with a vast percentage of tools, equipment, bulk materials, transformers. My only comfort is to look in a mirror and yell YOU'RE OLD! GET OVER IT! YOU'RE RETIRED! I don't miss the death threats from folks about TV and radio reception, visits by the FCC, cranky SCE engineers, and the EPA. I had a vinyl coated concrete work pad to contain heavy metals, and a home made Faraday cage over the pulse generating equipment. Cyclone fence, and a half ton of razor sharp lathe curls purchased in Los Angeles.

I curious ... why does high voltage alternating current bore better holes than high voltage direct current?

For example, are Electric Chairs using AC or DC?

Also, I think lightening is DC?

Couple KV to HZ and spice with ma and you have something that bores holes. From the sorry school of theoretical battery desulfation.

Found that out in 1968 when I had just started working as a TV tech apprentice: My right hand little finger touched the the cap on the high voltage rectifier while the left hand was supporting the chassis while I was making a small adjustment. : Had a small hole in that finger tip for years if not decades. The scar has finally gone!

Yeah but who is paying for his 3lectrcity?

I was out flying my RC plane today and saw two Teslas on the way and two in the parking lot. My neighbor has one and drives 200 miles a day, says the lack of gasoline bills is making the payments.

I would assume that future fuel cell powered cars for general market consumption would not require onboard hydrogen to be stored at 10,000 PSI ... as was the case in the experimental Equinox! I wouldn't trust that much pressure around me noway, nowhere, nohow. However, I'm sure advanced research is going on to eliminate the need for these kind of storage pressures in future vehicles that might be powered by fuel cells.

From what I read, I guess that it's REALLY DIFFICULT to find a way to store energy for use in a vehicle that equals the inherent energy stored in liquid gasoline. Mother Earth seems to have pulled off a real feat by creating raw petroleum packed with so much energy ... as she is proned to do in a lot of things she does/did.

Rather than a battery, I'd love to see a practical (maybe one that runs on propane) version of the fuel cell that powers Chevy's experimental Equinox - 100 kilowatts in a package the size of a bread box. A couple of those would power an entire RV, including the drive train...

I saw one of them at the New York State Fair a couple of years ago - at $1,000,000 each, it might take awhile for them to become practical!

It has nothing to do with TESLA, the question was what HE as innovated lately. HE being Musk, is the power and money behind SpaceX.

As far as TESLA in concerned HE and his team purchased the defunct GM plant in Fremont and modernized it, put a lot of the former GM workers back to work at good wages and kept them from having to look for low paying jobs. The proof of how well HE innovated can be seen on the streets around here, TESLAS seem to be dime a dozen these days.

Not a day goes by that I don't see one here in the San Fernando Valley either. They are out there, and they are selling well, in Los Angeles area.
