You can also shoot 'em with an IR thermocouple right down the fill cap. I had a mechanical thermometer with a monel probe that I loved but not as much as the @#$%^&! who loved it more. A pure glass precision glass thermometer will also work. Look for differentials. If the temp doesn't climb blast 'em with 14.8 until the cows moo. Five or ten thousandths of hard sulfated positive plate in the sediment chamber to render impressive performance for a few years is worth it. You'll know when you eee a decrease in charging voltage and increase in amperage your leechcraft is working.

Thanks, Mex. I don't know if these T-1275s are scrubber batts or what. A forklift dealer in town told me he actually prefers T-105s in a forklift because they don't shatter as often as some of the other 6s he has tried.

Anyway gen part of test ended with 127AH returned, still accepting 5amps at 14.8v, SG at about 1.255 too, and "fairly clear" thank goodness, so back where we started yesterday I guess.

Now on solar rest of day. Maybe get more AH stuffed in there so I can claim that 260 capacity :)

Scrubber Batteries have been around a long time. Not a bad choice when height is not all that important but surface area is. Scrubber batteries do not have the same acid to plate surface area ratio as a GC so they are not going to last as long unless you are very meticulous in your maintenance. A low ratio means a positive plate will hard sulfate easier. It's not earth shaking just good to know.

Three hours of recharge, charger 14.9, batt 14.8, 6.2a tapering, and 124AH.

Checked SG and it is just past 1.250, not clear but not bad. No black stuff. Suggests "full" will indeed be at 1.255 or somesuch.

With 220ah at 14.6 I figured 6 amps (3 amps per battery) was about 97% SOC on recharge. So with say 260AH at 14.8 we must be above 97% SOC? Anyway it all helps cross-check that we are in the ball park here.

Not going to get much solar today with clouds coming in, so will run the gen longer. So far it looks like the AH returned matches AH out for approx. 50% and the testing is validated.

After two hours recharge, they have taken back 113AH (Trimetric uses 4% for heat loss ISTR) and charger voltage is up to 14.9 (it keeps ahead of battery by itself a little but should stay about where it is now) and batt voltage 14.7, accepting 18.3a tapering. Allowed two more hours of gen time till 2pm then go on solar (part cloudy/sunny today.) I am down to my one 8.2a panel so it will be enough. This recharge might get us higher capacity figure to brag about.

Roy, find a golf car dealership and see what they do with their "pre-enjoyed" batteries. Maybe they still have a few 12s instead of all 8s, no idea.

Oops, they're $220 each. Sorry about that. I think $150 is the T105's. RoyB, the website (batteriesinaflash.com) I bought mine from will drop ship to a local battery shop. They have a list of shops that will deal with them. I didn't have to do any leg work, they did everything. I didn't have to pay any shipping or sales tax that way (they're in Nevada, I'm in CA). Only had to pay core charge (I only had two batteries to turn in).

Just goes to show that the 6's aren't nearly as bad under big loads as 12's but maybe those AGMs are better still.

Mena I didn't measure the voltage drop under load exactly, but just glancing at the Trimetric on different occasions, it is somewhere similar. I think we expect that in the 12s vs 6s for that? Not prepared to say that 260AH of 12s has same drop under 100a load as 460AH of 6s though, not without proper measurements.

ISTR I once got inverter alarm 11.0v when running the MW with the two 12s at 60% SOC est, whereas I can go to 50% with the four 6s. ISTR I could go to 75% with two 6s. So better than two 6s not as good as four? You can try it with your brand new 1275s at 300AH :)

I an recharging now, so I might get another test result showing how many AH they took back in. I set the charger at 14.8 which ISTR was the desired Vabs somebody posted for Trojans.(So batts are settled below that at 14.6) I am scared to open them up for the hydrometer. Might think I struck oil--Texas Tea!

I'm hoping those T-1275 will do me good when I can finally afford new batteries.
I'm sort in camping limbo right now but when I get going again these are the ones I really want to get. Glad to see the prices somewhat lower than just a couple of years ago. $150 each not bad for me to look at. I'm still not getting how these are shipped to you. I guess you have to make a deal with garage somewhere and use them as shipping points... The way I understand it they won't ship to your house - has to be a business???

I'm still game here for putting two T-1275 in the truck bed and two more on the trailer tongue. I think they weigh 82lbs each

I could probably drive to real city and find a TROJAN dealer maybe...

Once I get these up and running then I want to start looking at some solar panels for my POPUP roof. 240Watts maybe...

Then maybe I will just move to the mountain state line between VA and WVA

Yep, time to get rid of that oven too and get one of those combo convection/MW units!!! :) Man am I impressed with those batteries. Maybe I should get two of those to add to my bank. I think they're $150 each new. Only problem is they won't fit in the same space as two GRP 24's. I'd have find a place for them. Did you say that two of those have the same voltage drop under load as four 6's??

Thanks, Mex. OK I finished the load test (not lab standards!) and decided to quit when voltage just turned to 11.7 from 11.8 under a 19a load at the time.

(Usually, I find that you can go to 11.6 with the 20 hr rate and it will bounce back within the hour to a steady voltage you can use for a rough SOC. The 20hr rate on the 300AH (as new) bank is 15a. So I was maybe quitting too soon. Batteries were disconnected from all loads and were back to 12.09 in half an hour. Again maybe quit too soon. (Trojan says 12.1v is their 50%)

Trojan says 50% is also 1.172 and I was at 1.175 with ambient 70F. However that article said you can't use SG for SOC on an old battery, but you can use the voltage for SOC of whatever remaining capacity it has.

Whatever, Trimetric accumulated AH was 127AH from when started. So capacity is at least 254/300 = 85%. I think it must be higher from quitting too soon and also maybe from not being quite full at the start either. I will pretend they are at 262 or 87%. (The golf car dealer thought they were about 86% using their running time test)

Anyway, it seems these are a safe to use pair of batteries with more capacity than a pair of 6s (262 vs 230 say) They have been running the rig for a few days now as the only batteries and they also hold up well under occasional 100a loads running the kettle, toaster, MW. Obviously they won't last another ten years, but should do a year or two just RVing instead of being in a golf car.

If I wire them up with my four 6s as a bank I will have 262 + 232 + 226 = 720 AH. Ridiculous! :) That's almost as many as Mena has. I'll have to get a bigger microwave.
