Hot potato. Honest work doesn't pay much, and there isn't a lot of work in LA to begin with. Not for illegal immigrants with limited English. People tried and failed. Some didn't even try. Cartels are running their system really well. Some Latino inmates (or many?) are not Mexicans, btw.
I've been told that small businesses in this area that were typically owned by Mexicans - convenience stores, laundry, painting, lawn mowing etc - have been mostly taken over by Chinese now.
Ship to Canada who - all those ex-Californians in Baja, dressed in stained T-shirts and permanently in happy hour mood? ;)... Leave them alone, they wouldn't survive there with cold weather and tequila prices 4-5 times higher.
