The Best Quality 200-Amp Solenoid I Have Yet Seen

TROMBETTA

Trombetta seems to be using better materials and design for its electromagnet. Significantly stronger pull-in for the number of amps used to maintain full contact pull-in.

Just for curiosity's sake...

Stronger spring for fast release. Less arcing.

The maintain coil amperage is less than 2.0
  • I have a failed Trombetta. I don't think it lasted any longer than the cheapo one that Winnebago installed originally.
  • The first clue is that it weighs three pounds. The second is a loud CLACK when energized. Low coil amperage, then a detectable jolt then the coil is de-energized. Regular can solenoids that look like a metalized Ford starter solenoid do not have the room inside. They increase amperage for more load capacity but that does nothing for a fast breakaway to minimize arcing and contact destruction.

For some reason :) I cannot find a bad Trombetta solenoid to autopsy. I jump through hoops to minimize failed components as one failure can total ten times the amount of a replacement.
  • Thanks for posting, I was going to do a thread asking this very question. I bought one last week on Amazon and it was DOA. I ended up repairing the original one that came in our RV from 2006 (this is the starter-boost one) for now.
  • Sure looks heavy duty. Is it legit on the inside, did you cut one open?

Interesting ... according to the Trombetta website, their relays are made in USA and Mexico, so why re-import one from China? It's either a counterfeit or something else fishy going on?
