Well I never subscribed to the "You should have two" theory, in fact I can't recall ever hearing it before.
My advice has been to ask if you want to microwave your popcorn (Lunch actuallY) and advise a BIG inverter if you do and a small one if all you want is TV. But not two. I mean why double the overhead and standby current?
Another myth I came across. now this one I USED TO believe in but then I did research.
MSW inverters are more efficient than PSW inverters.
I compared two Xantrex models, both 1500 watt so as to get as close to apples and apples as I could.
Peak efficiency on one was 89-90% on the other 90%.. (MSW) not enough difference to count.
So the only difference is Price and "May not work properly" List. Back when I did the research Xantrex had a "May Not Work Properly" list (Alas it's gone now) It was a long list and growing (May be why they took it down.. I'd hate to see a RV catch fire because of something not on that list which catches fire when plugged into MSW, like an LED night light. actually happened to a forum member but he extinguished in time)
The list for True sign inverters is a tad shorter:
Any device or combination of devices needing more power than the inverter can produce
That's the entire list.
