What brand(s) of inverter utilize SEARCH MODE where the inverter is consuming a tiny amount of power awaiting a load then turn itself on? This would *seem* to obsolete any operational argument against the big inverter guys and gals.
The Magnum 1012 1000W/50A inverter charger has three states. I have measured the DC draws with a Turnigy.
1. Off - Oddly this does draw .21A! This is a permanent draw as long as it is connected to the bank. 5AH/day.
2. Standby - .32A. In this state it watches for a 5W+ AC draw and then switches to ON. It does revert to standby when the 5W draw ends.
3. On - 1.3A.
I also have a Morningstar 300W inverter. It has two draws per the manual:
1. Off
2. Standby - .026A, watches for an 8W AC draw. I can't use this because my 4W LED doesn't work.
3. On - .45A. A DIP switch is provided to let you set it up as standby or off/on mode. I use On/Off mode along with a wall switch.
