Telecom jars are a "surplus" acid design. That puts them sorta kinda closer to a flooded battery than other AGMs, except there is no way to add electrolyte. It limits the charge current to c/5 or about what a flooded jar can tolerate without gassing.
SO2 = rotten egg smell.
mike-s yup the OP does mention SO2 and made some unjustified assumptions. Mex did not know the video makes no mention of the gas. I think it is a good video for a beginner.
