Mex, I have never heard of that figure before, I was under the impression that Venezuela had the most recoverable crude (at a $85 oil price anyway) could you please find a link to that McNeal Lehrer show?
IMHO: That might change a lot of peoples arguments about the collapse of Russia from the oil price decline (if it stays at this level or goes lower) and the baseless claim that we engineered the fall, knowing how it would blow up every shale/fracking operation out there and wipe out thousands of jobs in Nodak and elsewhere, plus the hundreds of billions in oil based derivatives that now are going to blow up and for all intents and purposes be uncollectable.

Look the USA is a MINOR PLAYER in the fracking game. Australia has enough shale oil to supply China For 500 years. And the rush is on. The Saudi king and court panicked. Flat out. Fracked crude is light years more efficient in yielding diesel, gasoline and other light ends. The BS artists who try to convince people fracking is not competitive with Saudi crude forget conveniently to mention the difference between sour and sweet crude. It skews the comparison all out of whack. So does transportation costs. I doubt if the USA refines a thousand barrels od Saudi crude every year. That oil is bound for India and Europe.
The Soviet petro engineer was interviewed in Europe. Shortly thereafter he submerged never to be heard from again. The segment appeared around 1986 - 1987.his desciptions charts and methodology was compelling.
I was front and center during all the lies in the 70's. It disgusted me then and it disgusts me now. This isn't some whacko conspiracy theory. Contrived shortages, skewe supply and demand, speculation, and profiteering are some of the main undeniable weapons the insane Mullahs are preaching to eager ears. Fracking MUST yield enough PROFIT to pay costs AND satisfy inbestors AND speculators. A lot of money has to satisfy people managing enormous sums of money or the venture is declared unviable. This is not the sixties. Money and profit drives energy and agriculture NOT SUPPLY AND DEMAND.
