We boondock 365 days/year (when we are not spending time in Central and South America). We tied into line/generator power three days this last year. Our younger son and daughter have 30 amp hookups for us that we used with previous rigs. We do not hook into them now (last time was July 2013 during 50 year floods). Older son is off grid solar and we have not used his system either except once. So we cycle 360+ days/year. We do not hookup in Mexico (usually 3 months at a time in Yucatan) since we burned out two microwaves (Baja and Tulum area). So I think we can consider us serious boondockers.
Someone on this thread does not fully understand charging rates of LFP. You can charge from C/30 to over C/1. We have noticed charging at 300 W insolation to MTTP (in heavy shade) to 1150 W (at 1330 W to MTTP). You might be able to charge LiCo at 5C but that is not necessary.
I am not sure how one easily places lead acid batteries with 14 kW-hrs in most rigs. This is what would be required to have the same storage as our 9.6 kW-hr LFP. I just read that lead acid runs about 100#/kW-hr so this would be over 1000# (I estimated 800#). So what kind of a rig can take this much weight and cube?
We are 74 and plan to continue traveling and boondocking as long as we can. Plans for summer are the Trans-Labrador, ferryboat from Blanc Sablon to Newfoundland and 6 to 8 weeks there.
