Thermostat

How do you know if your thermostat needs to be replaced? Our furnace ignites when we push the reset and sometimes with the thermostat..

How can you test to troubleshoot?

Is your thermostat used for the AC and furnace or just the furnace?

If its only the furnace you should have only 2 wires to the thermostat. Connect the 2 wires together, the furnace should start. If it doesn't, the problem is in the wiring or the furnace. If the furnace does start, turn up the thermostat above the room temperature. If the furnace doesn't start the problem is with the thermostat.

If it is also used for the AC you will have to identify which wires are for the furnace. I don't know the color code or the labeling on the Tstat. Maybe someone else can help out here.
  • If the furnace doesn't start when the temperature drops below what the thermostat is set at, then the thermostat is suspect. Of course, there could be other causes, loose connections or a problem with the furnace for example.
