Tire covers?

Will they help my tires last longer?

My TA/KO tires are a year old. I don't put a lot of miles on them, so they will definitely die of old age before they wear out.

Should I get covers? Canvas or vinyl? Is black ok or do they need to be white to reflect light?

I mostly stay in the sunshine, and I see a review on Amazon says that vinyl is bad in the sun, canvas is better if they will not get rained on much. Is that accurate?

  • If you Google "tire covers do they work" you will see some hits that include actual temperatures recoded from a test that includes pictures.
Even a Youtube on the topic
  • I use the white tire covers plus I sit a piece of plywood cut to fit in the fender well in front of the tires
  • Absolutely, WHITE tire covers extend tire life if stored outdoors.
  • Without covers my tires developed cracks on the sidewalls. The cracks nearest the rims ended up expanding to 1/16 inch wide. Tires were only 3 years old with 90% tread left.

With covers my 5 year old tires have no cracks.

    Covers win.....
  • A recent report noted that tire covers may not help with UV damage but they do tend to keep the tires cooler. Therefore, white is the color of choice.
  • AZ sun will destroy everything. Covering it will lengthen life. We had vinyl it lasted 3 years.
  • I have white with the fuzzy inside. The more expensive ones fit better and don't blow off so easily. Black will get very hot.

They have to be used religiously for a long time to mitigate UV damage.
